This is certainly faster than driving to Key West, but is only good if you are staying overnight or longer.
That leaves less than 4 hours to explore the island.
Key west express speed plus#
If reserved seating is not offered by Key West Express, then I would advise against a day trip to Key West as you need to arrive 2 hours before the trip down, spend over 4 hours on the boat, plus disembarkation time, and then arrive 2 hours ahead of the departure back to Fort Myers at 6:00 PM.

We managed to watch a really old movie from 2003 through the glass between the outside corridor and the inside seating. Considering that the trip is nearly 4 hours, it was quite unpleasant. It became so cold we had to go inside and stand in the corridor for the remainder of the ride. There is absolutely no shelter from the wind generated by the speed of the boat. We had to sit outside on the upper deck, which was okay while the sun was out, but was extremely windy and cold once the sun set. Clearly most people had arrived about 2 hours before boarding to secure inside seating. We were three and just managed to find three inside seats together on the way down to Kay West, but could not find any inside seats on the way back even though we were queued up to board an hour ahead of time, per the Key West Express instructions. Return journey - arrived 4.30pm (for 6pm departure) and there was already a huge queue waiting to board. Not sure what time we needed to get to the Boat in order to be inside? spent much time standing to try and be in the shade. Boat already very busy and only seats were outside on top deck in the sunshine. Took four hours.Įarly start and we arrived 40 minutes before departure at 8am.
